Answer

No, it is not necessary for normal operation.
The main purposes of mounting a CF card or an SD card on a CPU module are as follows.
- You can write a program into a CPU without using loader software in the field.
- When a program has been written in a card and a CPU is running with the card mounted, the operating program can be read from the CPU.
* Only SX-Programmer Expert (D300win) requires a card to read a program from a CPU.

For more information on how to use a card, refer to the How-to Guide 'How to Use User ROM Card with MICREX-SX SPH300' (GE0030H).
